Village East, Bermondsey, SE1

Village East is housed in a former Victorian warehouse in Bermondsey. Inside, the décor is trendy and minimalist and very typical of the London’s scene of the last 4-5 years: white tiles, leather benches and exposed pipes. There’s a main bar area, always packed, a dining area with open kitchen and a lounge area upstairs with comfy chairs. The food selection is varied and a mix of old classics and some intriguing starters. The wine list offers over a hundred labels. The crowd is a smart, trend-aware bunch: lots of media folk and other creative. Personally, I was more impressed by the concept and the way the place presents itself rather than by the overall quality of service and food. However, if you want to get a feel for the trendy Bermondsey area or if you are used to New York style brasserie you may really like this place.
